Pitigliano is a totally mountain municipality of 3.795 inhabitants, located at 313 meters above sea level in the Province of Grosseto, Its territory covers an area of 102,90 sq. km.
Pitigliano, standing on a promontory of suggestive and wild beauty, surrounded by green valleys, is presented to the visitor in a fairytale setting.
The Medici aqueduct, churches and houses seem to magically take shape from the tufa spur overlooking the valley of the Lente and Meleta rivers.
The magic of Pitigliano is savored by visiting the ancient village, strolling through the picturesque streets, exploring the caves and tombs today used as cellars, and going even to the Jewish ghetto that made famous Pitigliano as "Little Jerusalem", with its synagogue still active, the rich library of ancient texts, cemetery and oven for baking unleavened bread.
